Welcome

Hariom Students and Parents,

Welcome to all our students and parents, especially those of you who are joining Balavihar for the first time. We are off to a great start with 12 students attending the first two classes on September 6th and 23rd! We are one of the larger classes in BBNJ.

In the first class, we all got to know each other. The students talked about things they liked (food, games) and about their experience with Balavihar. While many of our students have been in Balavihar for several years, this is the first or second year for some of our students. We talked about why the students come to Balavihar, and a common theme is that they like to see their friends. We encourage students to keep up the great attendance. Besides the continuity they will enjoy, they can feel good that they are adding value to the Balavihar experience for their fellow classmates.

It is indeed a great class. Our objective is to make Balavihar as interesting and rewarding as possible for the students. 7th grade is a major milestone and we believe that students are ready to have a more interactive class with discussions with more abstract concepts. The 7th grade curriculum has a theme where students write a letter to God. We had an interesting discussion about who or what God means to each student, and where they think God is. The "where" question is relevant since we need to address the envelopes they have written to the right place. And we will spend all year trying to figure that out.

We are also fortunate to be able to include a yoga class for our 7th grade class which is taught by our BBNJ Yoga teacher Mythri Menon. We had a very positive response from last year when we introduced yoga for the older classes. The plan is to have a yoga class each time, and so every student should bring a yoga mat and dress appropriately.

We look forward to meeting all the parents during "Back To Balavihar" on Sept 30 Sunday 11:00-11:30.

Thank you.
